Howl's eyes softened and he gently cupped her face in her hands. "If I didn't trust him, and if I didn't think he was right for you. But . . . if he seemed decent . . . and if you genuinely loved him more than me . . . why would I try to inhibit you from being happy? Yes, it would hurt . . . but your happiness means far more to me than my own, Rapunzel."

Howl wrapped his arms around her and held her close, stroking her hair. "Don't be. That was all purely hypothetical, anyways," he chuckled a bit as he kissed the top of her head.

Ariel just stood back and smiled as she watched them.
